佛教是巴哈伊信仰承认的曾在宗教经典中预言巴哈欧拉（彌勒佛）出现的九大宗教之一。佛陀被认为是连续出现的上帝的显示者之一，而最近有着佛教背景的巴哈伊教信徒的数量也呈现增长的趋势。
概念上的区分
佛教和亞伯拉罕諸教中不同的宗教概念，在巴哈伊信仰有关的学术研究中引起讨论。Jamshed Fozdar聲稱佛教教義中的不可知的实在即对应着巴哈伊教教義中的上帝印尼佛教也認為這是對作為萬物的源頭的神的描述，並且稱其為，但有信奉大乘佛教的佛學研究人聲稱這段經文所描述的是湼槃。
宗教学家莫门（Moojan Momen）聲稱上座部佛教及巴哈伊信仰的伦理观有许多相似之处，并且聲稱哲学层面的差异主要由与文化紧密相关的术语的不同所造成。
