OB星是熱的大質量恆星，在恆星分類上是O型或B型 ，它們形成於結構鬆散的OB星協中。它們的生命期很短，因此距離它們誕生的地區不會很遠。在它們的有生之年，會輻射出數量豐沛的紫外線。這些輻射會使巨大分子雲環繞在周圍的星際氣體快速被電離，形成電離氫區（H II區）或斯特龙根球。

在光譜的清單中OB光譜的範圍仍屬於未知的，但它們都屬於OB星協中的早期型恆星。
