在約翰‧雅各‧海伯（）於1721年繪製的列支敦士登親王國地圖中，該城堡被稱為「前施倫堡舊城堡」（），下堡則被稱為「後謝倫堡城堡」（）。1317年，施倫堡家族將其位於埃施訥貝格山的全部領地出售予（Grafen von Werdenberg-Heiligenberg），其中包括這兩座城堡。
1613年，取得施倫堡領地。《埃姆斯編年史》（）於1616年將兩座城堡記載為廢墟（）。最終，列支敦士登王朝於1699年購入謝倫貝格領地，當地的城堡廢墟亦一併歸其所有。
現代用途
該遺址免費開放予遊客參觀，與埃施訥貝格歷史高地步道（）相連。
