該機場最初名為肯特縣機場，但後來在1999年12月，機場更名為傑拉爾德·R·福特機場，以紀念美國第38任總統傑拉爾德·福特。福特於1949年至1973年期間代表大急流城地區在美國眾議院任職。

截至2025年9月，GRR機場有飛往美國39個機場的航班。它是密西根州西部的主要商業機場，也是密西根州第二繁忙的機場，僅次於底特律都會機場。 機場佔地3127英畝（1265公頃）。
