悬铃木属（學名：**'）是悬铃木科中現存的唯一属，主要分布于欧洲东南部、印度和美洲，最常见的为二球悬铃木。
本属植物都是乔木，高达30–50米，分为两族，Castaneophyllum族只有一种，生长在东南亚的常绿小乔木 P. kerrii，其余的都属于悬铃木族，都是落叶品种。一般生长在河边或湿地等有充足水份的地带，但人工栽培的也有一定的耐旱能力。其花单性同株，密聚成球形的头状花序，无花萼，每一个小雄花有3-8个雄蕊，雌花有3-7个雌蕊，为风媒花，授粉后雄花脱落，雌花逐渐形成只有1毫米大的小坚果组成的毛球，每个球直径约为2.5–4厘米，球散后，种子带毛，随风飞扬散播，类似蒲公英。
树皮老化后会脱落，露出新生的组织，因此树干显示班驳的花纹。化石发现表明，本属植物已经存在有1亿2千万年。
