月球樹

月球樹是指1971年阿波羅14號任務時，指揮艙駕駛員斯圖爾特·羅薩帶到繞越軌道的500顆種子培育出來的樹木。羅薩年輕時是美國林務局的空降消防員，當時的埃德·克里夫聯系上他提出帶著種子上月球的想法。實驗的種子是從五種不同物種的樹木中挑選出的：火炬松、美桐、北美楓香樹、紅杉和道格拉斯杉。這些種子繞著月球運行，但沒有在登上月球表面。

羅薩的女兒羅斯瑪麗·羅薩繼續在“月球樹基金會”工作。

位置
為了讓這些種子發芽，自月球返回的種子被送到美國國家森林局，位於密西西比州的格爾夫波特，以及加利福尼亞州的普萊瑟維爾的場站。幾乎所有的種子都成功發芽，幾年後美國國家森林局有了420珠幼苗。其中一些是與地球上同種的對應物一起種植，這些對應的作物刻意被種植在一旁，以做為對照。40多年後，這兩類樹之間沒有明顯的區別。大多數的月球樹在1975和1976年被送給許多國家的林業局種植，以做為美國建國200周年慶典的一部分活動。由於這些樹木都是美國南方和西方的物種，並非美國的各州和所有的國家都有月球樹。在白宮種了一棵火炬松，在巴西和瑞士也都有月球樹，也送給日本天皇裕仁等人|| 1976年6月25日
