西恩·麦克米金1974年生于爱达荷州，长于紐約州羅徹斯特，1996年在斯坦福大学学士学位，1998年和2001在加利福尼亞大學柏克萊分校获得硕士和博士学位，现于纽约州巴德学院任职。
