当地时间4月7日，智利卫生部长表示，智利将确诊并死亡的患者同样计入康复数中，因其“不再具备传染性”，随后被多家国际媒体广泛报道。4月9日，澄清说，前述表示系其口误，智利并未将死亡患者计入康复数中。

到5月13日，智利总共确诊病人达31721人，总共病死人达335人。智利一星期的增加率特别快，在南美洲也属于状况艰难的国家。5月15日起，智利首都圣地亚哥以及周边6个城区和北部伊基克和阿尔托奥斯皮西奥开始实施强制隔离，时间暂定为7天。

6月13日，智利卫生部长宣佈辭職。
