長谷川毅是一名居住在美國的歷史學家，專門研究俄羅斯歷史、日俄關係。
生平
出生於東京都，先後就讀東京都立武藏丘高等學校、東京大学教養學部，其後取得華盛頓大學博士。1976年取得美國國籍。曾擔任北海道大學斯拉夫研究中心（現・北海道大學斯拉夫・歐亞研究中心）教授、現在是加利福尼亞大學聖塔芭芭拉分校歴史系教授。

是美國研究日俄關係的權威之一。他用英語所寫的內容和用日語所寫的適合日本讀者看的著作內容裏，也可看到略有不同的部分。在有關太平洋戰爭末期美日蘇三國關係的著書Racing the Enemy（日語版為『暗闘』）中，認為蘇聯對日宣戰佈告比起美國投下原子彈對於促使日本投降發揮更大作用，引起學界討論。
