片中的村莊場景，是完全在賓州查茲佛德（Chadds Ford）郊外的一處田野中搭建而成的，相鄰的田地則設有現場的臨時攝影棚。電影於2003年10月開拍，期間曾因入秋較晚，導致某些需要「秋季落葉」景緻的畫面無法如期拍攝而造成延誤，主體拍攝最終於同年12月中旬完成。2004年4月至5月間，幾位主演被召回片場重拍。據報導，這似乎與更改電影結局有關；事實上，最終的電影結局與一年前外洩的劇本版本確實有所不同：劇本版在艾薇爬過圍牆並得到卡車司機幫助後便結束，而電影版則安排艾薇遇見公園巡邏員，並增加了她返回村莊的場景。
