彼得·韦尔，AM （，）是一位澳大利亚电影导演。代表作有《死亡诗社》、《楚门的世界》和《怒海争锋：极地征伐》，后两部作品为他两次赢得英国电影学院奖最佳导演，他也获得过四次奥斯卡最佳导演提名和四次金球奖最佳导演提名。2023年榮獲第95屆奧斯卡金像獎奧斯卡榮譽獎。2024年榮獲第81屆威尼斯影展榮譽金獅獎。
生平
他生于悉尼，父亲 Lindsay Weir 是一名房地产经纪人。彼得毕业于悉尼大学法学院，在同学的影响下对电影产生了兴趣。毕业后在悉尼电视台ATN-7担任助理节目制作人，并拍摄了一些短片和纪录片。他执导的首部电影长片是1969年的电视电影Man on a Green Bike。
1971年的 Homesdale 和1981年的 Gallipoli 为他赢得两座澳洲影视学院奖最佳导演奖。1985年执导了首部美国电影《证人》，获得奥斯卡最佳导演提名。
2024年3月，彼得正式宣佈退休。
个人生活
1966年，他与服装设计师Wendy Stites结婚，1973年生下女儿Ingrid Weir。他妻子负责他所有导演电影的服装设计工作。
