森林生態學（）是指以森林生態系為研究對象的一門學科，研究者將森林視為一個生物群落，其中包含天然林地內的所有生物（如植物、動物、微生物）與非生物因子（如陽光、空氣、土壤），進而探討森林的演進過程，以及森林內植物、動物與環境之間的互動關係。
