涅墨西斯星（，又譯復仇女神星），亦稱太陽伴星、黑暗伴星，是于1984年首次提出的一顆為了解釋地球週期性大滅絕的原因而假設存在的一颗非常暗淡的棕矮星或紅矮星，其近日點為一光年，遠日點則為三光年，距離太陽95,000天文單位（1.5光年），為假定中太陽的伴星。。而從2600萬年到2700萬年的變化，是因為相比Raup和Sepkoski當時使用的時間尺度，新的地質時間尺度“拉伸”了3%。這顆恆星可能在數十億年前從雙星系統中分離出去了，這使之無法用於解釋最近的大滅絕週期。針對該研究，對《商業內幕》表示：「如果太陽真的在早期是雙星系統的一部分，那它早期的雙胞胎應該有個親切的名字，例如Companion，而不是聳人聽聞的Nemesis。」
塞德娜的軌道
海王星外天體塞德娜有著一條十分長且極為橢圓的軌道於1980年代，紅外線天文衛星亦無法找到涅墨西斯星。在1997年至2001年期間進行的巡天調查2微米全天巡天嘗試尋找涅墨西斯星，亦終告失敗。
